Lab Director

Victor H. Duenas received his MS and Ph.D. in 2016 and 2018, respectively from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. In 2018 he joined the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Syracuse University as an Assistant Professor. His primary research interests are broadly in the areas nonlinear and adaptive control, rehabilitation robotics and human-robot interaction applications. The focus is to develop adaptive, safe and efficient control methods with guaranteed performance for highly dynamic tasks involving humans and machines.

Steven Evangelos joined the BSC Lab in Spring 2024 as a PhD student in the SU Mechanical and Aerospace department. Prior to matriculating at SU, Steven served in the US Marine Corps before earning his bachelor’s degree in business administration and MBA from Framingham State University. Following his undergraduate and master’s education at FSU, Steven started his own business as a strength and conditioning coach, serving clients of all ages and backgrounds before ultimately streamlining his services explicitly for golfers. Steven’s industry certifications include NASM CPT (Certified Personal Trainer), NASM CES (Corrective Exercise Specialist), NASM PES (Performance Enhancement Specialist), NASM GFS (Golf Fitness Specialist), TPI-CGFI (Certified Golf Fitness Instructor), and NESTA BS (Biomechanics Specialist). Exercising a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Steven invented the Proprioceptively Enhancing Assessment Knowledge (PEAK) training system, a device that can assess for and correct rotational misalignments in the transverse plane, leading to increased consistency and reduced injury incidence during the golf swing. Immediately prior to joining the BSC Lab at SU, Steven earned a bachelor’s degree [magna cum laude] in biomedical engineering from UMass Lowell’s Francis College of Engineering. During his senior year at UMass Lowell, Steven was awarded the NSF GRFP fellowship to continue his research with the PEAK device at SU. When he isn’t in the Lab, you can find Steven on any given highway in the continental United States, touring the country on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
